Work That Changes Destinies (A Universal Story)

Passion Led Us Here

At Talimer, our mission is to bring talented tech freelancers and companies together to create new stories like this one.

This is a story about a project that changed the world.

A local company needed help with a product launch. Like all such projects—the sewing machine, the iPhone, the Beatles album “Yesterday”—it started with a dream. Only this company was not so big. There’d be no articles in FAST COMPANY or ROLLING STONE.

But that didn’t mean it wasn’t important, or didn’t have the ability to change the world. It just reminds us you don’t have to change the whole world, just your corner of it.

Thanks to this one project:

  • Three recent grads did the first résumé-worthy work of their careers
  • The person who managed the project earned a promotion that helped her send her two children to great colleges
  • A 57-year-old man who had been “downsized” out of his 31-year job got to contribute and earn again (giving him a huge burst of confidence and a track to more work)
  • 15 other people of all different ages and races got the chance to do career-changing work for good pay
  • A company embarked on the road to growth (which made a CEO and a group of shareholders very happy)
  • A group of customers were delighted

On top of all that, three people who worked together on this project went on to start their own company, which is growing and offering opportunity to even more people now.

The market is always hot for remarkable.

This project changed the destinies of everyone who touched it, because they did remarkable work

At the outset, the team leader was excited to assemble the talent. There were a few fiery personalities, but that’s a good thing when you’re doing something you haven’t done before. There was also diversity. After searching far and wide, she had a team of people that didn’t all look, talk, and think alike! She brought in the talent, skills, and backgrounds the job needed.

The team was excited because their goal was to do something that hadn’t been done before. They could point to the result and say “Yes! I helped make that!” Week after week, they looked forward to Monday mornings the way ambitious people do when they have an opportunity to do something great. And in the end, they succeeded.

Was the project easy? Hell no!

Afterward, everyone on the team agreed it was the most challenging work they had done. If it was easy, it would have been unremarkable. The market is never hot for unremarkable. Unremarkable isn’t the kind of work that changes destinies.

There were ups and downs. But for every problem, there were creative ideas and solutions. Not to mention a few new inventions. And even bottom-of-the-ninth-inning heroics.

The story has a predictable, but happy, ending. The team won.

The best indicator of a successful tomorrow is a successful today.

This project gave a group of people the opportunity to create one successful day after another until the job was done, which gave each one of them the opportunity to go on to even bigger and better tomorrows.

We’re all in for the kind of work that changes destinies.

Times are hard, things are changing fast, and all kinds of talented people are suddenly finding themselves looking for new opportunities. At the same time, companies are finding themselves needing to be more flexible and responsive than ever in history.

We stand against racism, ageism, defeatism and any other kind of “ism” that blocks talented people from opportunities to do great work. We stand for optimism, equal opportunity, delivering the diverse teams companies need to win today, and keeping freelancers happy and fulfilled so they can come in and kick ass.

In the fog of 2020, even with all the downsizing and work-from-home pain, we see a clear opportunity to bring people together in a new way to do remarkable work. Because in good times, and hard times, as countless stories like this one have proven over time, remarkable work changes destinies.

Talk to us if you want to make positive change in your company or freelance career. We’re here to help you make an impact in your corner of the world.
